Keep It Short & Simple: A Twelve-Word Story
I’m very excited to share some news with everyone…
I have been chosen as the first-place winner for the Keep It Short & Simple writing contest! Although I had announced my achievement back in March 2021, I never shared my journey. As the first contest hosted by The Write Contest and Community, it challenged its contestants to write a story in only TWELVE WORDS!
The Twelve-Word Story:
Today on Author’s Daily: Writer against Blank Page. Once again, Page triumphs.

The Inspiration:
While on vacation in Tahoe with my friends, I stole away a few hours a day to work on my novel. Unfortunately, the dreaded writer’s block emerged and ruined my writing plans. Frustrated, I took to scrolling through social media. I stumbled upon The Write Contest and Community page and their K.I.S.S. contest on Instagram and decided to accept the writing challenge. Before this contest, I had never written a story so incredibly short. Writing a twelve-word story couldn’t be that hard, right? Wrong.
Once again, I was staring at a very white and blank page for an unbelievable amount of time. I grabbed my notebook and pencil, thinking the switch from computer to ruled paper would help. It didn’t. As I stared at the blank page, I ruminated about the number of times all writers stare at these white voids. And then… inspiration struck! What better story to write than one that all writers can relate to? Writing a story that challenged my writing skills and reflected my frustration with the creative process proved to be a very fulfilling experience.
I am honored and so grateful to have received this kind of recognition. Check out The Write Contest and Community for fun contests, friendly people, and my featured story!
