Black Lives Matter Community Mural
Murals make an excellent, creative statement that expose social, political, historical, and cultural issues. These expressions are especially significant to current racial inequities because it gives citizens a chance to have their voices heard—to communicate exactly what matters to the people in an artistic way. Around the world, murals contribute to the Black Lives Matter movement as performative statements, but they can hold much more power than that. Abi Mustapha, Taylor Reinhold, and Sean McGowen united their creative forces to lead an equity initiative in the heart of Santa Cruz County. They envisioned a BLM mural that will celebrate the value of Black lives, publicly educate on racial inequity issues, and maintain a community of growth and accountability.
